The DiscoverTec Team and Austin traveled to the Desoto Super Speedway on
late Friday afternoon to get some testing in because of the new tire
rule going from Goodyear to Hoosiers and having never raced on the
track to get in some lap time on a new track. 37 trucks showed up for
Saturdays race Austin set new track record in qualifing at 15.92
previous record was 16.08.
In Fascar Series rules the driver that sets on the pole draws what
they call a pill draw, Austin drew a 9 which is the order in which he
starts.
The DiscoverTec 63 started 9th in the 50 lap race Austin was up to
4th position within lap 6. He worked his way to 3rd on lap 25 and
stayed there to finish the race 3rd never having quite enough
horsepower to pass the first and second place trucks but staying right
on there rear bumper.
At the finish of the race 3 race teams protested the top 3 trucks for
ilegal motors and chassis. In the Fascar Series any race team can put
up $750 to protest any other truck, if found ilegal the oposing team
has to return the money to the team that protested, if not found
ilegal the team protested keeps the money. The DiscoverTec Team
prepared for a long night and started tearing down the motor on the 63
truck.
At 2:30 am the first and second place teams were disqualified due to
heads on their motors being ported and polished making the
motors illegal. The tear down process continued on the DiscoverTec
Chevrolet. At 6:30 am the final process of weighing the crank of the
motor was done and Austin was handed the first place trophy, winnings
for first place, winnings for setting track record and the $750 protest
money back. The DiscoverTec Chevrolet was completely legal and
Austin gets his 3rd win of the season. The DiscoverTec team loaded up the
trash bags and boxes that the 63 truck and motor were in at 7am and
took off to try to get ready for Friday night's point race in Orlando.
